Simple enough eh, BUT do they outshine their predecessors? We say YES!! With their iconic & memorable design, the iPhone looks, feels and performs just how you want it to. Coming in a small range of dynamic colours, we think this year's flagship models could outperform everything on the market. We're not saying that so you buy one, break one then come to us either, the chances of cracking one of these new beauties are very slim indeed. Built stronger than ever before, this iPhone variant is a 9 out of 10.

The only reason we can't give it a 10 out of 10 is the obvious, THE PRICE! With the entry level iPhone 14 128gb coming in at an eye watering £849, given the economic climate and energy crisis of late, we suspect Apple's pay-monthly program may get more traffic than usual, not to mention the 1tb iPhone 14 Pro Max almost topping £1700!!! It's just a question of what you're prepared to pay, is it worth it? Yes and no...it depends on what model you have, an S8 screen repair is around £165 which is almost as much as an S21 screen repair which is only £30-40 more but the device is worth 4 times as much so it's finding that balance in the cost to value ratio.

There's a new kid on the block...

Meet the all new iPhone SE 2022 ....same as the older but newer iPhone SE 2020 that looks like the iPhone 8 which is almost the same as an iPhone 7 and not dissimilar to the iPhone 6s which was based on the iPhone 6.......

I am a lover of Apple products for sure but they haven't really pushed the boat out design wise on this new addition to the product line. Inside this magical creature is all the power of an iPhone 13 so in that respect you will notice significant performance upgrades. BUT, Humans are fickle creatures and quite simply, we base instant decisions on how things look first and how they work later so i think Apple have dropped the ball here.

That said, it will make the repairs much easier, cheaper and faster by keeping this classic design that the public know and love so maybe it ain't all bad. Who knows, and at £419 it is a bargain. Are you getting one??

Take charge...

Charging your Apple iPhone or Samsung Galaxy device should be easy right? Well for many, the longer you have your phone the harder this can become, why? WHHHYYY? We hear you cry, allow us to explain....

Fluff. Simple as that....well OK it's not but 99% of the time it really is. As we put our phones in our pocket, handbag, cement mixer etc, the charge port is prone to attracting naughty particles like dust, debris and even wood chippings! Over the years we've removed some weird and wonderful things from charge ports COMPLETELY FREE OF CHARGE so if you're wrapping your charge lead around your phone to get it to connect or the lead no longer goes all the way into the port then our service will likely fix your problem.

Of course there are times when the charge ports and/or motherboard chips (often called the Tristar IC ) fail and you need an actual repair. WE DO THIS TOO! Charge port repairs are straightforward and can usually be completed within 25-30 minutes. If you have a motherboard failure then this will take longer for our wizards to work their magic. Tristar or coil failures often present as a battery issue with extremely fast depletion making you think your battery is degraded so diagnosis (another free service by iRepairs Hull ) is essential.

So there you have it, most charging problems are down to dirt. If you decide to clean it yourself, be sure to use something thin and non-magnetic taking care not to damage the pins otherwise you will definitely need a charge port replacement. Here we'll discuss the importance of battery health , how it affects performance and what you can do when your battery starts to degrade and swell up!!

Technology truly is a marvel of the modern age, the advent of the transistor has revolutionised our world and is the most manufactured man-made product ever invented (more on this in another blog). But let's get back to basics . You've got an iPhone, Android phone or Laptop / MacBook and the battery can't last more than half a day, WHY?

Well it's more simple than you think, most Smartphones use Lithium-ion batteries that degrade over time. Their very construction has degradation built-in to it's design and will only perform at it's designed capacity for so many ' cycles '. A cycle is one full discharge of the battery from 100% to 0% and you should expect around 500 cycles from any Li-ion battery before you notice problems.

A battery's 'health' often referred to by Apple's ios as it's maximum capacity , is a measure of how well your battery is performing compared to when it was brand new. We consider anything under 90% to be degraded and under 85% as significantly degraded and needs replacing. iRepairs Hull offer battery replacements for just £25 when performed in conjunction with another repair, say a screen replacement or back glass repair so it's worth asking to have it done at the same time to save them pennies .

These magnificent Li-ion batteries have a nasty side too.... THEY SWELL UP , sometimes so badly that they physically push up or break the screen of your device leaving you with another expense so it really is worth keeping an eye on your battery health at least weekly to prevent this. Replacing a swollen battery is a dangerous task that can result in an EXPLOSIVE end so please do not attempt to DIY it, get in touch and we'll sort it for you!

Finally...for Apple iPhone and Apple iPad we cannot stress enough the importance of using either genuine or MFI certified (Made For iPhone) charge leads as they have an enormous impact on both battery health and the components in the iPhone's motherboard (more cheeky little transistors here too).
